How will Planning Appeals be considered Post Covid-19?

The Planning Inspectorate (PINS) has issued guidance on its working practices to limit the spread of the Coronavirus which can be viewed here.

All physical hearings and inquiries are currently postponed. PINS have commenced planning inquiries and hearings online using  methods like video conferencing for events to continue in an open, fair and impartial way. They want to ensure everyone involved including local communities can participate fairly and that this different way of conducting their work does not undermine confidence in the planning appeals system.

The government have introduced measures through the Business and Planning Act 2020 to enable the Planning Inspectorate, on behalf of the Secretary of State, to apply more than one type of procedure (inquiry, hearing and/or written representations), depending on the particular issue at hand, when dealing with certain planning appeals.

The Planning Inspectorate are continuing to accept and process new planning appeals. J & J Design have considerable experience in using the online portal for all stages of the appeal process.

Planning appeals must be submitted within the relevant timescales from the date of the decision notice or enforcement notice. Contact us for further assistance.
