Meet the Team

Mike is Managing Director of J & J Planning and Design Ltd and leads the strategic direction of the business and provides senior planning advice across a wide range of development projects.

A Chartered Town Planner with over 30 years’ experience in both the public and private sectors, Mike has advised house builders, developers, landowners and public sector clients on projects ranging from strategic land promotion to detailed planning applications and appeals. His experience covers major residential and mixed-use development, urban sites, commercial schemes and proposals involving heritage and other complex planning considerations.

At J & J, Mike works closely with clients from the outset to establish clear, commercially informed planning strategies and to guide projects towards successful outcomes. His wider role with DLA Town Planning also brings additional planning expertise and resources to the J & J team.

Mike combines detailed knowledge of the planning system with a practical and solutions-focused approach, helping clients understand the opportunities, risks and best route forward for their projects.

John is a founding partner of J & J Design and continues to support J & J Planning and Design Ltd as a part-time consultant. Since 1975, he has built up extensive experience in private planning practice, advising on a wide range of planning matters.

Over the course of his career, John has represented clients at planning appeals through Written Representations, Hearings and Public Inquiries, as well as dealing with Local Plan representations and the promotion of land for development. His experience spans projects across Bedfordshire, Worcestershire, Northamptonshire, Essex, Kent, Cambridgeshire and a number of London Boroughs, working for private landowners, developers, housebuilders and other organisations.

John has also acted on behalf of local authorities, and has extensive experience representing clients through the development plan process and at regional examinations. He continues to bring a wealth of practical planning knowledge to J & J, closely following developments in planning law and national policy and regularly attending professional seminars.

Catherine has worked in the planning and development sector for more than 30 years and has extensive knowledge of planning policy and the practical processes involved in progressing planning work. She works closely with the team, managing projects, liaising with clients as the key contact and guides schemes through the planning process from initial advice to submission and determination. Her role covers all types of planning applications, appeals, operations and client support.

Catherine also supports the day-to-day running of the practice and coordinates business development and marketing for the company. Her broad experience, organisational knowledge and long-standing involvement with the business help keep projects progressing efficiently and clients well supported.

Hayden plays an active role in managing projects at J & J Planning and Design Ltd, coordinating planning work, liaising with clients and project teams, and helping to guide schemes through the planning process from initial advice to submission and determination.

A Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Hayden has experience across a broad range of development projects including residential schemes, major housing developments, employment sites, and sports and leisure facilities, with particular experience of projects in the Green Belt. He also works as a Principal Planning Consultant at DLA Town Planning, bringing wider consultancy experience to his work with J & J.
